Terms and Conditions
Terms and Conditions for using UIF Portal.
Accepting these terms
By using UIF Portal, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site. These terms apply to every page, guide and tool on the site, and they may be updated from time to time; the version published on this page is the current one, and continued use of the site after an update means you accept the updated terms.
What this site is
UIF Portal is an independent information guide about the Unemployment Insurance Fund in South Africa. It is not the UIF, the Department of Employment and Labour, UIF Online, or uFiling, and it has no connection to the Fund or to any government body. Nothing on this site is official advice, and nothing here can log you in, check your claim, change your details, or pay you. The UIF name and the names of official portals are used only to describe the subject of the guides.
Information only — not advice
Guides and tools on this site are general information. They are not legal, financial or tax advice, and they are not a substitute for the official rules, the legislation, or a decision by the Fund. Rules, rates, ceilings and deadlines are set by legislation and regulation and can change; where a figure is reported but not verified against an official source, the guide says so, and where official sources disagree the guide shows both sides. Always confirm the current position with the UIF, the Department of Employment and Labour or SARS before you act, and treat the Fund's decision as the one that counts. If a guide and the official position differ, the official position is correct.
Calculators and tools
Contribution results are exact arithmetic on the salary you enter: 1% from the employee and 1% from the employer, up to the published earnings ceiling. Benefit, payout, maternity and duration results are estimates only: the real amount depends on your declared earnings history, your credit days, the benefit type and whether you meet the eligibility rules, all of which only the Fund can determine. Do not use an estimate to promise a payment to a creditor, sign a financial commitment, or decide that you can manage without other income. Tools run in your browser and never ask for your ID number, passwords or banking details — never enter those into any calculator on this or any other site.
Using the site
You may read, print and share pages from this site for personal, non-commercial use, with a link back to the page. You may not copy the site's content wholesale, present it as your own, use it to mislead anyone into thinking you are the UIF or the Department, or use it for any unlawful purpose. You must not try to damage, overload or gain unauthorised access to the site, and you must not use the contact form to send unlawful, abusive or misleading material, or anyone else's personal information.
Intellectual property
The text, design and original illustrations on UIF Portal are the copyright of UIF Portal unless stated otherwise. Official names, such as the Unemployment Insurance Fund, the Department of Employment and Labour, UIF Online, uFiling and SARS, are the property of their respective owners, and their logos are not reproduced on this site. Short quotations of official guidance, and screenshots of public official web pages used to show readers what a portal looks like, are used for information and identification only.
Links to other websites
This site links to official websites, including UIF Online, uFiling, the Department of Employment and Labour and SARS. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices. A link does not mean we endorse everything on the linked site, and a link is not a guarantee that the linked page will still say what it said when the guide was written.
Liability
The site is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. We take care to research guides from official sources and to flag what is unverified, but we do not guarantee that any page is complete, current or free of error, and we are not liable for any loss that follows from relying on the site instead of the official sources or the Fund's own decision. In particular, we are not liable for a claim refused, delayed or paid late, or for any financial decision made on the basis of a calculator estimate.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when the site changes. The current version is the one published on this page. If you have a question about these terms, use the Contact Us form.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa. Any dispute about the site will be dealt with under South African law.
